how we got here. (fourth evolution) is an updated version of how we got here [1999], which was the first of my works to explore and question our (American) culture. The intent of the work was, at least on a personal level, to open up a dialogue through which one could learn a more accurate history than what we generally learn as children.

That being said, some people think the piece is about Dinosaurs, which is also a perfectly reasonable interpretation.

how we got here. was premiered by fourth evolution at the 2003 Edinbuegh Fringe Fest, conducted by the composer. The music accompanied dance by Terpsichore's Kitchen Dance Theatre of Ann Arbor, Aimee McDonald, choreographer.
